Benjamin Paz represents a new generation of coffee producers. He chose to work with coffee due to his ambition and a genuine interest in specialty coffee’s potential. He runs a West Coast US-inspired coffee bar and roastery and assists with his family’s coffee exporting company, San Vicente Exporters, all alongside overseeing his two coffee plantations. This coffee comes from Paz’s farm, La Orquidea, near the town of El Cedral in the famous Santa Barbara region of Honduras. The high elevation and tropical climate in this region create unique challenges for coffee producers because cold and humid conditions make the processing extra demanding. But clever and prescient coffee farmers like Paz and others in the region have found ways to precisely control drying conditions and minimize the risks associated with the weather. As a result of these unique conditions for growing and processing, the coffee produced here inherits flavor attributes not found anywhere else in Central America.
