What started as a dream between brothers and close friends has blossomed into a beloved name across Oahu bringing sunshine, good vibes, and quality coffee to locals and visitors alike. Born and raised in Hawaii, the Smith Brothers (Alex, Travis, and Koa) and longtime friend Koa Rothman channeled their love for the island’s deep-rooted culture of health, community, and positivity into something tangible: Sunrise Shack.
The first shack—an 8x8 roadside right on Sunset Beach—quickly became a destination, drawing people from all over. Their bulletproof coffees and smoothies set them apart, offering a fresh, health-focused take on morning rituals. But Sunrise Shack was never just about what they served—it was about the experience, the culture, and the connection.
The Smith Brothers and Rothman grew up in the ocean, making a name for themselves in surfing and bodyboarding, earning worldwide respect in the surf community. That same passion fuels everything they do at Sunrise Shack—creating a space that embodies island life, where locals and travelers alike come together over great coffee and real conversation.
Today, what began as a humble stand has grown into a full-scale movement with six locations across Oahu, culminating in the grand opening of their newest store in Kapahulu. Located just outside Waikiki, Kapahulu is a lively neighborhood where the culture of food, surf, and community thrives. The new location embodies everything Sunrise Shack stands for—bright energy, local flavor, and island hospitality.
With its signature yellow aesthetic, friendly team, and nourishing menu of smoothies, acai bowls, and coffee, the Kapahulu Shack is already becoming a neighborhood favorite for both locals and tourists looking for good vibes and even better coffee.
